velour vs. velvet

velour vs. velvet
Velvet and velour are very similar however velour is the best choice for comfort.
Velour
Velour was invented in France in the 18th century. It looks and feels very similar to velvet, the main difference is that velour is a knit fabric with a structure known as a pile knit. The pile knit are loops with the ends of the loops cut off giving it a very smooth feeling. Velour is stretchy while velvet is not. Velour is comfortable because it’s softness and warmth.
Velvet
Velvet originated in China and was very popular during the Renaissance. It is a woven fabric with a structure known as the pile weave, the yarns are woven into loops in one direction. Velvet is not stretchy and is often used in more structured garments.
